The Big Apple Softball League offers a place for players of all skill levels to play softball in a friendly and fun environment. The league is currently divided into six open divisions (based on skill level and competitive attitude) and one women's division.
Established in 2009, the BASL introduced its first division for all-women teams. Women from all skill levels are welcome to join.
Named after Burt Sachs, the league's long-time former Recruiting Committee head. This division is for players with little or no prior softball experience is also home to players who prefer a looser, more recreational game. Usually, any new teams formed at the start of each season are placed in the Sachs Division. From there they can move up to a higher division as they gain experience.

Second recreational division, named after the major symbol in the gay community, the gay flag aka rainbow flag. This division is for players whose experience and skill level are a step above those prevalent in the Pride Division.
Named after Jerry Fitzpatrick. As a manager, he was known to pick up players from the draft that were not selected for a team. This division consists of teams with more experience in the league, and players who want a more challenging level of competition than generally found in the Rainbow Division.

Named after an iconic bar and a revolutionary movement. A more competitive division than Fitzpatrick, the Stonewall Division is home to more experienced players seeking a higher level of play. In addition to playing within their division, Stonewall teams play crossover games against the Dima Division.
Named for one of the league's founders, Chuck Dima. He is known throughout the NAGAAA community as the Godfather of Gay Softball. This division is where players with the highest skill level and most experience play.
