Big Apple Softball League: New York City's LGBTQ+ Softball League

RIP Officer Michael Hance

The Big Apple Softball League would like to offer condolences to the friends and family of Officer Michael Hance, 44.

Officer Michael Hance was the co-star, alongside BASL member Aaron Santis, in a video that went viral during NYC Pride a couple of years ago. The pair were filmed dancing during the NYC Pride Parade.

Officer Hance of the NYPD was also a hero. According to the the Daily News he served on the police force for 17 years and was a first responder during the 9/11 terror attacks. He passed away this week, at the age of 44, from 9/11-related cancer. He leaves behind two young daughters and a fiancée and according to his brother “8 million friends”.

On behalf of the BASL Community we would like to thank Officer Hance for bringing a smile to our faces.

We are working with the Gay Officers Action League to raise funds to benefit the family. If you can donate, please visit the Fundraiser Page.

There is a wake at Arthur White Funeral Home in Bethpage from 2-4pm and 7-9pm on both Thursday & Friday if any wish to play their respects.
